LINDY SWANSON
Professional, Educational Experience& Divine Credentials
Lindy Swanson has homeschooled her two children from birth to present. Her children are now 13 and 15 years old. She earned her Master’s degree in Biology from the Institute for Creation Research. She has taught Biology using creationist and intelligent design principles to pre-school through college and adult levels, in homeschool co-ops, churches, private and public schools from 1985 - present. She has served as a floating director in four daycares, been a preschool teacher, high school teacher (biology), and college teacher (biology & geology). But her primary and only essential qualification to homeschool is that God called her to do so.
Homeschooling Special Needs - Low Functioning to Gifted
Her two children were “learning challenged” during their early years of education. Through neurodevelopment exercises, vision therapy, dyslexia remediation, and Structure of Intellect training, she took them from being special needs children on one end of the scale to being special needs - gifted - on the other end of the scale. One child still struggles with ADHD.
Homeschooling through Prolonged Illness
During her childrens' elementary school years, her health began to fail. Though Lyme disease and other conditions nearly took her life, she persevered through homeschool during the entire period because that is how God directed. God provided a hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber to help her get over Lyme Disease. She now offers hyperbaric oxygen therapy to others. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy can help some children with ADD/ADHD, autism and cerebral palsy to function better. She credits her husband’s commitment to God and servant’s heart to their family’s survival through these years.
Homeschooling as Discipleship
During recovery, she and her husband of 26 years found great help and strength in the Freedom in Christ Ministry (FICM) materials. This led to their involvement with FICM as Ministry Associates. They now teach and offer seminars related to FICM themes. The Freedom in Christ Ministry themes are highly complementary to themes of Biblical Christian liberty found in Principle Approach® curricula . Both are highly useful discipleship tools. She and her husband see discipleship as the core purpose of homeschool and parenting.
Homeschool Leadership
Lindy has served in leadership of two homeschool co-ops over three and a half years - Kid’s Intelligent Design School (KIDS) Co-op and Liberty Homeschool Co-op.
Homeschool Experience with Multi-age Unit Studies and Grade Level Curricula
Use of the Noah Plan®, the original Principle Approach® curriculum, inspired her to create a Christian Online Academy Principle Approach® multi-age unit study curriculum. This is an easier fit for most homeschool families than grade level curriculum.
Homeschooling with Teens
Awareness of the changing challenges that homeschool parents face at the junior and senior high school level led her to start Christian Online Academy (COA). COA will offer video courses for jr.-sr. high with varying degrees of support from independent study to on-line correspondence tutoring to live tutoring.
Homeschool Team Support
God miraculously connected her with Kevin Monk to aid in the development of COA. A divine appointment led to the developers of our website, John and Skye McGinn with Skye's the Limit Designs. Lindy’s husband, Keith Swanson, will teach “American Literature (Puritans-Present)” in their Liberty Homeschool Co-op for 2007/08. This will be recorded by Christian Online Academy thanks to an anonymous donor who provided for the purchase of Mimio and MindManager software, and a projector.
Homeschool and Prayer
Lindy finds constant prayer essential to every concern in life. Others are prayerfully considering their participation in this endeavor. Prayers of the righteous form the foundation of this ministry. Please take just one minute to pray for our needs. Thank you.
